Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support services

You are here:

Summary

Reflecting the importance of the Yarra  area to the Victorian Aboriginal community, the Neighbourhood Justice Centre employs two Koori Justice Workers. These workers aim to address the underlying causes of offending through providing a variety of support services to the local Aboriginal Community in Yarra and to Aboriginal visitors or those with a strong connection to the area.

The Koori Justice workers provide the following

  • court support
  • referrals
  • case management
  • support for Aboriginal clients on community corrections orders

The Court holds a monthly Aboriginal Hearing Day on which all cases involving Aboriginal defendants are heard. This special list was developed in order to provide better support for Aboriginal clients and to increase court attendance.

To make an appointment to see a Koori Justice Worker telephone 9948 8777 or visit the information desk at the Centre, 241 Wellington St Collingwood Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
