Learn about community justice, learn about us

As Australia’s first community justice centre and first International Mentor Community Court we welcome professionals, practitioners, student, and community groups interested in learning about community justice or specific aspects of the NJC model.

Due to COVID-19 we will not be conducting onsite visits in 2021.

Talk to our Education & Public Programs team if you are a:

  • teacher, lecturer or organisation interested in bespoke online information sessions and/or guest speakers
  • research requests.

Contact us at njc.education@courts.vic.gov.au (External link) and address your enquiry to our Education Project Officer.

Virtual Tour of the NJC

As we do not know when we will be allowed to have visitors back onsite, you can virtually walk around the centre by following this link.

Group information sessions

Our group information sessions can provide you with a general overview of the concepts behind what we do, and showcase our work. We also customise sessions to meet the needs of your group, so sessions may include some or all of the following:

  • an overview of community justice
  • a tour of the Centre
  • interactive activities
  • the opportunity to watch the court in action
  • talks by staff about their work

Information sessions are appropriate for a wide range of audiences, including tertiary students to social services professionals, government and justice professionals. Prior knowledge of the justice system is not required. Information sessions usually go for an hour.

We welcome requests from academics, professionals, or practitioners to discuss the NJC model or access our resources. Please contact the Education and Public Programs team at njc.education@courts.vic.gov.au (External link)

Tertiary student opportunities

Due to COVID-19, the NJC will not be accepting placements in 2021.

Research requests

Academic staff, higher education research students or other organisations and researchers are encouraged to submit a brief overview of their research proposal by email to njc.education@courts.vic.gov.au (External link)

Work experience (secondary school students)

The NJC is working with local schools in the City of Yarra to provide opportunities for secondary school students. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept work experience students that are not attending schools in this area.
