The Neighbourhood Justice Centre acknowledges the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin nation, the traditional custodians of the land upon which we work, and we respect Elders, past and present.

Connections to the community

It's important that everyone who walks through the doors of the Neighbourhood Justice Centre feels welcome, respected, listened to and understood.

This is particularly the case for our First Nations fellow citizens.

Community-based support

We assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who live in the City of Yarra, or have a strong connection to the place even if they live elsewhere.

You don't need to be attending our court to avail of our services.

Koori Justice Worker

Our Koori Justice Worker provides culturally responsive and holistic support and community engagement.

A few ways we can support you includes:

  • Emotional support on the day of your hearing
  • Referrals to a wide range of services
  • Support when on a community corrections order

Wraparound support

We wrap our support services around our clients. That is, we make sure you're supported as little or as much as you need.

If you are attending court, your duty lawyer will talk to you about the services we offer.

Our Neighbourhood Justice Officer can help you to navigate the justice process and put you in touch with the right service.

You can also talk to the friendly Court Network volunteers (External link) (External link)  before, during and after court for more help.
